The Western Advocate has been serving the Bathurst community since 1848 including the towns of Blayney, Perthville, O’Connell, Sofala, Hill End, Newbridge and Oberon. Located in the Macquarie Valley on the Central Tablelands of NSW, Bathurst is Australia’s oldest inland settlement. Booming in the 1850s and 60s with the discovery of gold, Bathurst has remained one of Australia’s fastest growing regional centres with a diverse range of industry from agriculture and engineering to education. Education is the largest single industry in Bathurst, with Charles Sturt University and 16 primary and secondary schools in the region. Also significant to the local economy are employers Simplot and Mars Petcare. Mount Panorama in Bathurst is a mecca for motor racing fans worldwide and is now home of the Bathurst 1000 and the Bathurst 12-Hour. The Western Advocate aims to help build the community by keeping it strong, informed and connected and delivering quality news and photography.
