Federal politics and public service reporter – The Canberra Times

The Canberra Times seeks a reporter to join its team covering federal politics and the public sector.

Our Parliament House team takes a distinctive approach to coverage of national affairs, focusing beyond politics to the implementation of policy by the Australian Public Service. We want a reporter who loves to work as part of a team with a sense of a unique mission. Our bureau serves the audiences of Canberra and ACM, Australia’s largest independent media organisation with an already powerful and growing subscriber base.

We seek a journalist who can demonstrate excellence in crafting compelling, accurate and balanced writing with proven skills in filing for digital platforms and tight deadlines. Enterprising and exclusive reporting is key to our success so the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of breaking stories in state, territory or federal politics.

Experience researching, analysing or reporting on government and matters of economics, defence and/or public policy would be an advantage, as would the ability to understand and present data.

The Canberra Times appears in print seven days a week and has a growing audience of digital subscribers who demand and deserve informed, informative and independent reporting on the public sector and federal politics.
